At the University of Southampton we have an exciting opportunity for a Watersports Supervisor / Chief Instructor overseeing our activities across various locations.

This will include instructing on and oversight of the University yacht, the activity at our Watersports Centre on the Itchen, maximising the on water participation of our students and driving RYA course income. The University has a proud maritime heritage and our RYA accredited training centre plays an important role in developing our students as well as the local community.

Key to the role's success is communication with the student users of the facilities, encouraging participation whilst keeping a clear eye on Health and Safety. A significant portion of this role will be teaching on the yacht (38ft Sigma) and/or on our coded RIBs, as well as leading the rest of the Watersports team, which includes 2 full timers and a number of casual instructors.

You will be a positive and proactive problem solver and be able to manage a mixture of planned and reactive activities at the same time to ensure that work is delivered on time and to a high standard. You will be a strong team player, but also be self-sufficient and able to work independently.

You will hold a variety of Watersports Qualifications and have experience of working in a similar Watersports Centre. You will be familiar with H&S legislation and have an understanding of risk assessments, method statements, and how to apply these in a sporting context.

A full driving licence is essential to travel to other local sites.

The basic hours are 35 hours per week.

An Enhanced DBS Check may be required for this role.

What we can offer you:

We offer some fantastic benefits including generous annual leave (plus an additional 6 University closure days and bank holidays), company pension scheme, discounted private healthcare and dental, company sick pay, options for flexible working, excellent family leave arrangements, a wide variety of on and off-campus arts and culture facilities and access to a range of staff discounts and offers at local shops, restaurants and service providers.
