Research Security Manager

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Research Security Manager to lead and develop the University's approach to research security, Trusted Research and international research risk management.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in supporting world-leading research while helping the University navigate an increasingly complex national and international regulatory environment.

Working closely with senior leaders, researchers and professional services colleagues, you will ensure that the University can pursue ambitious research partnerships safely, responsibly and in compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

This role offers a unique opportunity to influence institutional strategy and help create an environment in which excellent research can thrive securely and responsibly. You will work with colleagues across the University and beyond, helping to shape policy, practice and culture in a rapidly evolving area of strategic importance.

About you

You will bring significant expertise in research security, research governance or a closely related field, together with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing universities in an international research environment.

You will be able to demonstrate:

- Experience of interpreting and applying complex regulatory requirements in a research and innovation environment.
- Expertise in areas such as Trusted Research, export controls, national security considerations, research governance or research compliance.
- The ability to provide credible advice to senior stakeholders and influence decision-making at all levels.
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical skills and judgement.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage confidently with researchers, professional services colleagues and external bodies.
- Experience of developing guidance, training and organisational initiatives that support compliance and cultural change.

A market supplement may be available for an exceptional candidate with substantial relevant experience in research security, Trusted Research, export controls or related areas.
