Research Fellow

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world's leading public health universities. The Department of Infection Biology brings together pathogen molecular biology and immunology and infection research across the School. The Department benefits from state of the art facilities and strong collaborations, many of which are with partners in disease endemic countries.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to work in the laboratories of Prof Brendan Wren as part of a BBSRC/DEFRA consortium using glycoengineering to develop and produce veterinary vaccines. The new appointee will work as part of a team to use glycoengineering to develop Brucella, Strep suis, GBS and Mycoplasma glycoconjugate vaccines for a range of livestock.

The post-holder will join a vaccine research team of ten staff at the LSHTM. The post-holder will have an opportunity to contribute to publications in high impact international scientific journals and be part of a wider consortium in UK, Africa and Asia that uses a Holistic Approach to Veterinary Vaccine Applications (HoVVA).

The successful applicant will have:
- A postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic
- Expertise in molecular biology and glycoengineering
- Expertise in vaccinology and vaccine design
- Proven ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively as part of a research team
- Proven ability to meet research deadlines

The post is fixed term until 30 September 2029 and full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE. The post is funded by BBSRC and is available immediately.

The salary will be on the LSHTM scale, Grade 6 in the range £45,728 - £51,872 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting).

Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary Wellbeing Days. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
