Sign in Create an accountWe are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the group of Dr Ioannis Kourtzelis to work on the regulation of innate immune responses. The aim of our research is to identify macrophage-mediated mechanisms shaping health and disease.
The Hull York Medical School (ranked 10 in the UK), the associated Department of Biology and York Biomedical Research Institute are recognised world leaders in biomedical research. You will join a vibrant environment of scientific researchers who are dedicated to tackling these important problems in global health. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment where staff and students can thrive, contribute their best, and achieve their full potential. We take great pride in holding the Athena Swan Gold Award.
This is an exciting position funded by the Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA). This project is part of the Sustained Viral Resilience programme and includes a collaboration between groups at the Universities of York, Cambridge, Birmingham, University College London, King's College London and Queen Mary, University of London. This position will be based at York. Anticipated start date for this position is March-April 2027. The end date for the current phase of funding is 31 May 2030.
The aim of this project is to characterise the effects of 'sustained innate immunoprophylactics' (SIIPs) that are based on engineered lipid nanoparticles targeting lung-mediated immune regulation.
You will be a postdoctoral-level researcher with interests in the macrophage-mediated mechanisms of immune regulation. Specifically, the post-holder will be expected to lead the project in relation to animal studies and interact with other partners within an ARIA-funded consortium.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed:
- The successful candidates will have a PhD in a biomedical sciences discipline with a focus on immunology
- Knowledge in a range of research techniques and methodologies including in depth expertise in mouse models, cellular immunology (flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy) to engage in high quality research
- Strong understanding of current concepts in immunology
- The successful candidate must have experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research, writing up research work for publication and a willingness to contribute to the process of securing future research funding
The University strives to be diverse and inclusive – a place where we can ALL be ourselves. We particularly encourage applications from people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background, who are underrepresented at the University. We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements, with forums and inclusive facilities to support our staff. As a Disability Confident employer, we will ensure that a fair and proportionate number of disabled applicants that meet the minimum (essential) criteria for each position will be offered an interview.
