Applications are invited for the post of Professor in Avionics Engineering within Aston University's Department of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering.

Successful candidates should demonstrate national leadership and an internationally recognised profile in Avionics Engineering. The postholder will lead and nurture research, education and external engagement in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, while contributing significantly to the School's new provision in Aerospace Engineering, especially in areas aligned with avionics, electronic systems integration, model-based systems development and control.

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with research background in design, development and integration of electronic systems and components to aircrafts, familiarisation with testing, certification and regulatory standards, and applications to communication systems, navigation, control and instrumentation, and/or power electronics.

Candidates should also demonstrate a student-centred teaching focus with experience and enthusiasm to lecture subjects related to aircraft electrical, electronic and software engineering, with experience in related laboratory practices. The successful applicant will be expected to develop engaging teaching materials, deliver and assess learning across a range of formats, including lectures, tutorials, and the supervision of individual student projects. An effective and evidenced track record in learning and teaching using these modes is essential as is a record of positive student feedback.

In addition, applicants will be expected to play a key role in the operation of the Department including acting as personal tutor to students, taking part in open days, and helping with outreach activities.

Applicants must have a first degree and PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline. We would also expect applicants to have achieved professional recognition as Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) or above, or be willing to achieve this once in post. It is desirable that applicants are familiar with a virtual learning environment (VLE) software such as Blackboard or Moodle.
