Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual to join our team as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the continued success and development of our Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) provision, while supporting the wider Engineering discipline within the College of Science and Engineering.

The successful candidate will need to integrate into the existing team and contribute to the School's teaching, research and innovation activities. You will need to produce high quality research outputs, develop collaborative research initiatives, secure external funding, and deliver high-quality teaching in EEE related modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

A distinctive feature of this role is the opportunity to contribute to the University's growing portfolio of transnational education (TNE) partnerships. As part of our flying faculty model, you will be required to deliver programmes at international partner institutions. This will involve overseas travel, including periods of up to six weeks per visit and multiple trips throughout the academic year, to fulfil teaching and academic support commitments. The timing and frequency of travel will vary according to operational requirements. Initially this will be to support a partner institution in China. Between international assignments, you will be based at our Markeaton Street campus, playing a full academic role in teaching, research, academic administration, and the wider life of the School.

Principal Accountabilities — Learning/Teaching

- Effectively teach and facilitate learning on a range of subjects/modules within the subject area on undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and post-experience programmes.
- Ensure that knowledge from research and scholarly activities informs and enhances learning and teaching.
- Ensure that module/programme design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the University.
- Participate effectively in the assessment process, including the setting, marking and moderation of student work, providing constructive feedback.
- Participate in the continuing review and development of module/programme delivery, incorporating innovative study modes, learning environments and pedagogic practices.
- Take on relevant module leader and/or programme leader responsibilities, including associated marketing, recruitment, delivery and ongoing programme development activities.
- Contribute to development of new programmes and preparation of validation and/or accreditation materials.
- Deliver teaching at overseas partner universities to satisfactory standards.

Principal Accountabilities — Research/Scholarship

- Engage in individual research and collaborate both internally and externally on research projects consistent with the College, contributing to the REF.
- Sustain and enhance the reputation of the University by publishing in appropriate quality journals and presenting at scholarly activities.
- Develop and maintain contacts and relationships with relevant professional, research and industrial organisations.
- Contribute to writing bids for externally funded research projects.

Other Accountabilities

- Act as a personal tutor, supporting and mentoring students as appropriate.
- Provide pastoral care to students, following and referring any students at risk to appropriate support services.
- Support marketing and student recruitment activities as required.
- Develop external links to support student recruitment, secure placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income or build relationships.
- Be responsible for administrative duties in areas such as admissions, timetabling, examinations and assessment of progress and student attendance.
- Contribute to effective cross-College/University working.
- Observe and implement University policies and procedures.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications:
- Good Honours Degree in relevant subject discipline or equivalent.
- Fellowship of the Advanced HE (HEA) or willingness to work towards.
- PhD (or submitted and awaiting examination) or equivalence accepted in a relevant subject area, or willingness to work towards within an agreed timeframe.
- Subject-specific qualifications/knowledge.

Experience:
- Experience or knowledge of quality assurance and validation of HE modules/programmes.
- Experience or knowledge of higher education and ability to use a range of delivery techniques to inspire and engage students.
- Demonstrable experience in the electrical and electronic engineering discipline.
- Experience of research/enterprise activity in one or more of the following areas: Machine Learning, AI and Robotics.
- Evidence of active publishing in high quality journals or other outputs contributing to the REF.
