Sign in Create an accountThe European Human Rights Advocacy Centre (EHRAC) works with human rights defenders in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Ukraine to identify systemic abuses and urgent threats to civil society and marginalised communities. Together, we undertake strategic litigation to secure justice and accountability. EHRAC has taken over 300 cases to the European Court of Human Rights and UN mechanisms and have won many landmark judgments.
EHRAC's cases focus on issues arising from conflict and security force operations; the repression of civil society and restrictions on democratic accountability; and discrimination issues including gender-based violence and LGBTQI+ discrimination. EHRAC litigates in close partnership with domestic NGOs and lawyers, through a unique and sustained partnership model of collaboration and support. As part of the model EHRAC hosts training and awareness-building events, as well as publishing legal guides and resources. A core aspect of EHRAC's work is that it implements a trauma-informed approach into its legal practice.
This unique role will give the opportunity to lead on and develop litigation before the European Court of Human Rights and UN mechanisms; devise trainings, webinars and litigation resources for partners and wider groups; and represent EHRAC, as a legal expert, at external events.
The ideal candidate is qualified to practise as a lawyer in a Council of Europe State and has extensive human rights litigation experience, particularly from the European Court of Human Rights and UN mechanisms, as well as experience leading, developing and delivering training and skills development.
Given the international context of the work, we are looking for individuals who have worked with different cultures and in challenging contexts and who would thrive in this environment. We are particularly looking for candidates with experience litigating discrimination issues including gender-based violence and those who have integrated a trauma-informed approach into their legal work.
This is a full-time position, with EHRAC's office based in London.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and requires a Disclosure and Barring Service certificate. You are therefore required to disclose details of any criminal record. All criminal convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings, even if they would otherwise be regarded as spent under this Act, must be disclosed, as well as any other information that may have a bearing on your suitability for the post, including pending prosecutions. The University will apply for a DBS certificate before your appointment is confirmed.
