We are looking for someone with an excellent eye for detail to join the Doctoral College's Recruitment and Admissions team. As part of our team, you will play a vital role in providing an efficient and effective service to those students who are considering undertaking postgraduate research at Bath, as well as supporting our academic colleagues to recruit the best doctoral students. In addition, you will be responsible for planning and managing PhD studentship competitions and funding budgets.
The Doctoral College supports and enriches the experience of doctoral researchers and plays a key role in developing policy and strategy for doctoral study. It also supports recruitment to doctoral study programmes, manages student and programme administration, provides professional skills development and helps students to feel supported, from enquiry through to graduation, wherever and however they choose to study.
The Doctoral Recruitment and Admissions team is responsible for administering the admissions for a wide range of PhD, Integrated PhD and Professional Doctorate programmes and for managing the numerous funding competitions associated with doctoral study.
This part-time role involves liaison with prospective doctoral students, members of academic staff, internal professional services representatives and other university colleagues as well as external agencies. You will be the key point of contact for admissions and recruitment matters related to an allocated area (eg Faculty/School) and you will be responsible for ensuring that procedures/processes are correctly followed and service standards maintained within that area. This will involve working closely with the Doctoral Recruitment Administrators and the other Doctoral Recruitment Officers within the team.
In addition, you will be required to coordinate student funding allocations, and to work with the Doctoral Admissions Manager and Head of Doctoral Recruitment managing wider postgraduate recruitment activities. You will also be expected to support members of the wider Doctoral College team and administrative staff within our Doctoral Training Entities, providing assistance and guidance where necessary.
You should have substantial experience of working in a busy administrative environment, preferably involving admissions or student recruitment. You should also be highly organised and be able to manage a busy workload with conflicting priorities, both for yourself and others, whilst remaining flexible and willing to adapt to changing circumstances.
It is crucial that you have a meticulous attention to detail because we work in an environment where mistakes could be financially and reputationally costly. You will need to be committed to ensuring work is completed with accuracy and precision. It is also very important that you enjoy working collaboratively as well as on your own initiative. You will need to work closely with other team members, academic colleagues and students from across the world, so excellent communication skills are highly important as is the ability to develop strong working relationships.
Due to the need to work out costings and manage studentship budgets, you will require strong numeracy skills. You should have excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Word and Excel, and the ability to learn how to use database systems. Knowledge/experience of Business Objects and/or SAMIS/SITS would be beneficial.
This role is available on a permanent, part-time basis working 21.9 hours per week (0.6 fte). The team follows a hybrid model of working; we work in the office on Mondays and Tuesdays and we work from home from Wednesday to Friday inclusive. You may choose to work 3 full days per week or to spread your hours over 4 or 5 days. You will be required to work on Tuesdays and to come to our office on campus on that day. Your other working days are negotiable, but we would prefer you to work on Thursdays or Fridays (or both).
Benefits include: generous annual leave allowance with an additional 5 discretionary days; generous employer contributory pension schemes; cycle to work scheme; electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme; staff discount at Team Bath gym; discounted postgraduate tuition and language courses; LinkedIn Learning and apprenticeship opportunities; local discounts including free entry to the Holburne Museum in Bath; relocation allowance; visa reimbursement and interest-free loan for immigration expenses; employee assistance services through Health Assured including access to the Wisdom app; staff support groups and networks; a network of Staff Wellbeing Champions.
